Germany – Mexico
The world champion Germany meets Mexico in the second semifinal of the Confederation Cup in Russia. This game is going to be played just one day after the first semifinal between Portugal and Chile.Just as it was expected, Germany didn’t have problems to qualify for the semifinals after winning Group B of the competition. Joachim Low’s boys recorded two wins – against Australia and Cameroon, and shared the points with Chile. Now is time to remind that Germany brought an extremely experimental team in Russia, mixed with young players and players who don’t have much of an experience on a national level.Even in this case, Germany won 7 points out of 9 and won its group, qualifying for the knockout phase. As for Mexico, they finished second in a group with the European champion Portugal. The Mexicans ended their participation in the group with the same amount of points as Portugal – 7, but they had to accept the second place because of goal difference. But even against Portugal and the home team Russia, Mexico remained unbeaten in the tournament. The captain Julian Draxler is one of the most experienced and vital players in Germany’s squad this year. The PSG midfielder is a very important figure in Joachim Low’s squad and we expect to see him under the spotlight against Mexico as well.In attack, it’s expected to see Low relying on Borussia M’gladbach’s Lars Stindl, although RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner is also an option. As for Mexico, the usual goalscorer there is Javier Hernandez. Playing for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, Chicharito has a good knowledge of the players he’s about to face. Carlos Vela, Giovani dos Santos, and Andres Guardado are also players who the fans of European football know very well.Germany is the clear favorite in this class, but you should never write the Mexicans off. They are a solid team who can beat everybody on its day.
